The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The Night Mode feature allows you to illuminate the Indiglo night-light for 3 seconds with any button press, regardless of the mode or function. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters (165 feet)--suitable for swimming but not for diving. All Timex heart rate monitor sensors have batteries that can be replaced by consumers without requiring them to be returned to the manufacturer.

| With so many fad diets and "experts" out there telling us how to eat and exercise, and judging by how many of us obviously don't do it right (many times because we listen to those "experts") you'd think getting and staying physically healthy is either rocket science or voodoo. Well, thankfully it's not...
...and a simple heart rate monitor (HRM) is one of the keys to success because it takes much of the guesswork out of exercising in order to reap the most benefit. Science has proven to us that in order to truly realize the benefits of cardiovascular exercise it all essentially boils down to how fast your heart beats as you exercise and how long it does it.
More specifically, we've found that cardiovascular health as it relates to exercise means consistently (minimum 3-5 times per week) getting your heart rate within certain range (usually 120-150bpm) and keeping it there for a certain length of time (about 30-60 minutes). That's it. No rocket science. No voodoo.
And, contrary to what many will tell you it really doesn't matter what cardiovascular exercise you do if your goal is general health - it only matters how hard your body is working while you're doing it, how long you do it, and how consistently you do it, and HRM allows you to accurately monitor these variables so you can ensure you're getting the most from your time and effort.
I researched quite a bit before buying this particular HRM, and in fairness please keep in mind that there are many good HRMs out there, from very basic to very complex in all different price ranges. However, I can confidently recommend this unit based on a few criteria that I was looking for while choosing which one to get.
1. This HRM works and works well. It seems absurd to even mention this but sadly not all HRMs work so great, and no matter how many bells and whistles it has if the thing won't just accurately tell you your darn heart rate it sort of defeats the whole point. I would only add one brief comment on functionality. All HRMs (and this one is no exception) have trouble picking up your heart rate occasionally, particularly when you haven't sweated enough to moisten the chest strap sensors. In almost all cases this phenomena is transient and does not affect efficacy in general. But if this proves an issue for you, either wet the sensors a bit, tighten the chest strap, or better yet use Spectra 360 Electrode Gel Parker Labs, Each 250GM Tube, one of which will usually fix the problem.
2. The unit is simple but with just enough bells and whistles to be useful without requiring a college credit course to fully utilize. For the tech savvy out there that want the software functionality and uploading capability more power to you but I just wanted something relatively inexpensive that had a couple of additional basic features beyond a simple heart rate display, such as functioning as a full-featured stand-alone watch with chornograph, Indiglo, alarm, water resistance, etc., zone alarm (a feature that will beep at you when your heart rate goes outside a preset range), the ability to display all the pertinent date on-screen (HR, time, chronograph/lap time, etc.), and finally the ability to manipulate the on-screen display to show parameters in different configurations, all of which this unit performs.
3. The ability to change my own battery! Surprisingly, in some HRMs (such as Polar) the battery cannot be changed by the lay-person, forcing most of us to actually send the unit back to the factory or take it to a dealer. Batteries can and do die and I think it absurd that I would have to go to such trouble for a simple battery change, or otherwise do it myself and void the warranty. With the Timex simply grab a common watch battery and wham you're back in business.
...
I would give only one small criticism: Although marketed as "unisex" this thing is pretty darn small. I'm not a big guy and it fits but I certainly don't have much room to spare on the wristband. For big guys this unit will not work.
All in all this represents a good compromise on quality, features, and price. |

| | I bought this watch after my friend referred it to me. I love it! It is a nice way to accurately monitor your heart rate and calories burned. The chest strap is not too tight and adjustable. Would recommend to someone looking for a "not to complex" heart rate monitor. |

| | Excellent product. I had problems with the chest belt, but Timex replaced it in warranty, in Brazil. Not many companies do that. The new chest belt is working perfectly. |
| NOT UNISEX! | 2010-07-12 | 3 / 5 |
| | This watch is not unisex, it's small band did not fit. Nice watch, just not for men. |
| Great HRM. We love it. | 2010-06-26 | 5 / 5 |
| | Great HRM. I love it. It does everything I need it to do. |
